About

From its inception, Memphis Symphony’s musician-led series, Opus One, has delighted in bringing together musicians from all different colors of the musical spectrum.  We musicians of Opus One often perform new and unexpected music in nontraditional venues, but what we play is what we believe in: good music without boundaries of era, genre, or locale.

In the past 18 months we symphony musicians have performed 5 concerts in non-traditional  venues across Memphis.  These concerts combine classical repertoire with contemporary rock, jazz, blues or alternative music- featuring a well-known Memphis musician, whose songs are completely reworked for full orchestral accompaniment.   By taking the orchestra out of the traditional concert hall, our audience is able to be physically closer to the music, and enjoy it in a more club like setting- with food, drink and casual conversation encouraged throughout the concert experience.  Check out our videos to get a sense of what concerts are like.

These concerts are dynamic and completely original.

Opus One is reloading for the newest season of one of the most innovative concert series in the country. The Memphis Symphony’s Opus One series takes the orchestra and drives it head first into the Memphis club scene. For a fourth season, brilliant classic masterpieces combine with the city’s most exciting bands to bring you the definitive Memphis music experience. We have redefined classical music in our city. The rest of the world just has to catch up.
